Positive: We stopped at the Lab Experiments on the second night of our road trip through France, Switzerland, Italy and Monaco. We arrived late after travelling a long distance and visiting many places along the way. Although we were aware that check‑in was only available until 9pm, we realised at a certain point in the evening that we weren’t going to make it by 5mins. Thankfully, we received an email from reception with instructions on how to self check‑in, which was amazing. However, the instructions included photos taken during the day, while we arrived in the pitch‑black evening, in the rain, with very minimal lighting outside the hotel. We were trying to get our bearings, but it was really difficult to match the bright daytime pictures to the weird night‑time shapes around us. When we finally entered the main hallway, we were surprised to see that some staff were still present. They happily offered help with check‑in. If it hadn’t been for them, we’d probably still be standing outside NOW. We were accommodated in the Switzerland design room, with a mountain silhouette. We loved the footprints on the floora quirky-charming touch. The room felt modern and definitely higher quality than what you usually get from a mainstream hotel. The beds were quite soft, which isn’t really our preference, but that’s purely personal. Cleanliness was spot on! And the BATHROOM, OMG! One of the best we’ve seen in a hotel: a nice spacious shower, good water pressure, modern and sleek. We found having no TV a bit bizarre, as we do prefer having something playing in the background, but since we were absolutely knackered and ready for bed pretty much straight after arriving, it didn’t make much difference. There was something funky going on with the kettle, which just wouldn’t start, but as my husband is a MASTER DIYer, he fixed it pretty quickly! Breakfast was basic. You won’t go hungry, but don’t expect thrills or much choice. For the price of the night, I’d expect a bit more finesse.
Negative: The ambient lighting outside the property during the evening was insufficient.
